‘Things fall apart’ is an extract from W. B. Yeats poem ‘The Second Coming’:
‘Turning and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world’
The poem inspired the title of Nigerian author Chinua Achebe’s 1958 novel which forms the first part of his African trilogy.
